Noy Thrupkaew is an independent journalist who has researched human trafficking and labor exploitation since 2006. As an Open Society Fellow, she investigated the largest human trafficking cases in the United States, and explored ways to develop greater accountability in law-enforcement initiatives against forced prostitution.

A contributing editor for the American Prospect and recipient of International Reporting Project, Investigative Fund, and Fulbright grants, Thrupkaew has reported from Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Iran, Morocco, and Cuba for outlets including The New York Times, The Guardian, National Geographic, The Nation, Radio Netherlands, and Marie Claire. In 2015, she taught a seminar on transnational investigative journalism at Princeton University and gave a TED talk on human trafficking.

Adam Harrison is the Global Palm Oil Lead for the WWF network. Currently, based in Scotland, he has been working for WWF for the last 17 years on a range of rural, agriculture and food based policy areas. He is now the lead in WWF of the global programme of work on palm oil coordinating work on policy, markets, finance and business practices in the major producing and consuming regions.

He also leads on institutional support to the RSPO where he is Vice-President, a Board member and Chair of the Standards & Certification Committee overseeing the development and implementation of the RSPO standard. Before working for WWF in the UK he worked in natural resources management and development in Nepal, Cameroon and Namibia.

Jan joined RSPO as Supply Chain Manager in 2013 and was appointed as the Head of Certification in 2015. In his current role, he oversees all aspects of certification in RSPO and is responsible for the training activities by the RSPO endorsed trainers.

Jan was a member of the original RSPO Criteria Working Group and also later as a member of the P&C Review Task Force. Prior to joining RSPO, he was the vice-president of Soyuz Corporation based in Kaliningrad, Russia.

Felipe Guerrero has been DAABON’s Corporate Director of Sustainability since 2008. Along with his team of professionals, Felipe plans, executes and monitors the environmental performance of 14 vertically integrated companies that range from sustainable organic agriculture (bananas, coffee, cocoa, palm oil and cattle grazing) to sea port developments.

Felipe is an Environmental Engineer from Universidad El Bosque in Bogota. He also holds an Associate’s Degree in Energy Resource Management from the University of Oklahoma and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering and Water Resource Management from Florida International University. His undergraduate and graduate thesis work has been published in peer reviewed scientific journals.

James has worked extensively on standards, accreditation, certification, and labelling issues. This work has been at the national and international level. His experience includes serving as Research Associate to the Taskforce on the Churches and Corporate Responsibility, Vice-chair of the Forest Stewardship Council’s (FSC) international Board of Directors, and Founding chair of FSC Canada. As Deputy Executive Director & Operations Director of FSC International he oversaw the international accreditation, standards development and labelling programs of FSC. In addition he was a Member of the Canadian Delegation to ISO TC 207 (developing the ISO 14000 series of standards) and a founder of the International Social and Environmental Accreditation and Labelling Alliance (ISEAL).

His current clients include the WWF US, Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), Accreditation Services International (ASI), Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). James is a member of the board of directors for Greenpeace Canada and a member of the ISEAL Alliance Technical Committee.

He holds a Bachelor degree from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas; a Master of Divinity degree from the University of St. Michael’s College, the University of Toronto and the Toronto School of Theology; and, a Master of Arts degree in Regional Planning and Resource Development from the University of Waterloo. In addition, he is a full member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute.

As Exova BM TRADA’s Responsibly Sourced Development Manager Andy works extensively with clients and group offices on developing responsible sourcing platforms and meeting the growing number of sustainability targets. 

Predominately focussing on the food, home, personal care and Animal Feed industries Andy has been instrumental in supporting the uptake of certified sustainable palm oil through the RSPO certification scheme. He has been central to the development of Exova BM TRADA’s Responsibly Sourced Scheme and is passionate about finding an effective route to demonstrate sustainability on a range of products, whilst limiting the resource costs of doing so.

Andy remains committed to the aims of sustainability standards, the benefits of independent certification and the need to ensure a harmonised approach to audit requirements.

Mark Brin is a Director of Public Policy Strategies, the Principal Consultant at Intelligent Water Solutions and a Visitor at the University of Adelaide. He was the Australian representative on the water security working party of the Council for Security Co-operation in the Asia Pacific. His presentations have included American Water and the International Water Association World Conference. In addition to his academic writing, he is a published commentator and author.

Mark’s previous careers have been as a teacher, politician and government minister. His research specialties are Water Policy and sustainable agriculture.

As Manager for ISEAL's Impacts Programme, Vidya leads ISEAL’s work on research engagement to promote and learn from credible, relevant external research on the impacts and effectiveness of sustainability standards and communicate such research effectively. She also leads on work to improve the quality of communication of the evidence on the impacts of sustainability standards and ISEAL members in particular. 

She is also leading on evaluations of the ISEAL Impacts and Assurance Codes as well as other internal evaluation projects as part of ISEAL's own organisational M&E. She is also responsible for other specific areas of work within our Demonstrating and Improving Poverty Impacts (DIPI) project, Collective Reporting efforts with ISEAL members and support our work to improve the impacts of sustainability standards. Before ISEAL, she worked for over three years as Senior Research and Impact Manager at the Fairtrade Foundation - the UK arm of the global Fairtrade system.

During this time, she was the organisational lead on all impact research and learning and an integral member of Fairtrade International's MEL team that included work on developing Fairtrade's Theory of Change, global MEL Strategy and managing several research and evaluation projects. Her training is in development studies, research methods, economics and international trade. She has an M Phil in Development Studies from the University of Oxford and a Master in Economics from India. She comes with extensive fieldwork in South Asia, East and Southern Africa and parts of Central America.

Michelle Desilets is the Founder and Executive Director of Orangutan Land Trust and has been working in orangutan conservation for more than 20 years.

Michelle previously founded and directed the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation UK.

The mission of the Orangutan Land Trust is to provide sustainable solutions for the long-term survival of the orangutan in the wild, by ensuring safe areas of forest for its continued survival. The focus is on protecting critical areas of orangutan habitat. Because the conversion of habitat for oil-palm plantations represents the greatest threat to the survival of the orangutan, Michelle feels the single-most effective way to save the orangutan is through working to ensure that palm oil is produced sustainably.

She has served on numerous committees for the RSPO including New Plantings Procedures Working Group, Taskforce for Review of the P & C of the RSPO, Complaints Panel and Dispute Settlement Facility Advisory Board. She also represents Orangutan Land Trust as a member of the Palm Oil Innovation Group.

Gregory is leading WWF Singapore’s Markets Transformation Initiative, in his current role, Gregory manages partnerships with the private sector on soft commodities issues. 

In 2016, he facilitated the foundation of the Singapore Alliance for Sustainable Palm Oil with WWF Singapore and founding members Unilever, IKEA, Danone, Wildlife Reserves Singapore and Ayam Brand. Gregory is currently  managing the secretariat of the Singapore Alliance for Sustainable Palm Oil. This alliance is a regionally-focused industry-led, multi-stakeholder platform open to all involved in the usage, trade and production of palm oil.

Prior to joining WWF-Singapore in 2016, Gregory was a sustainability auditor for Ecocert, the world’s leading organic certification on corporate social responsibility. Earlier in his career, he held positions in environmental management consultancy for various sectors including the aviation and commodities sectors. He also worked on water policy at the  Japan water Forum where he acted as the Asia regional coordinator for the World Water Forum.

Gregory holds a Master of Science in Sustainability from Sorbonne University in Paris and a Bachelor degree in Geography and Communication from the University of Montreal, he is a regular lecturer on sustainability at business & engineering schools.

Sarah Sijses has an academic background in development economics and international marketing, with a specialisation in international supply chain management.

She is currently working as Senior Policy Advisor Sustainability at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Indonesia. In this position she deals with all sustainability matters in Indonesia, in particular those related to palm oil, in which the Netherlands Government is involved, either directly or indirectly, through funding of activities.

Before joining the Embassy, Sarah has worked at the UN World Food Programme in Indonesia, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, DG Trade of the European Commission and several consultancy firms. Apart from the Netherlands and Indonesia, which is her second home, she has worked in China, Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan and Brussels.

José Roberto Montenegro is Agrocaribe’s current General Manager, leading, world class Company producing, processing and exporting palm oil in northern Guatemala. In 2010, it became the first palm oil company in the world to obtain the Rainforest Alliance Certification, and in 2014 the first one in Central America to obtain the Principles and Critera RSPO- IP Certification. http://www.agrocaribe.com.

Before joining the company, he was Financial Analyst at Standard Fruit, Honduras (DOLE) and Country Manager in Latin American Agribusiness Development Corporation (LAAD) for Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Belize for 15 years. He is currently Co-Chairman of the Consulting Group for Latin America (CGLA) and member of the Emissions Reduction Working Group (ERWG) both of the RSPO.

Jose Roberto is an agronomist, graduated from El Zamorano, Honduras (1990) and has an MBA specializing on finance and natural resources from INCAE Business School. He has also participated in executive programs at Kellogg School of Management and INCAE (Strategy - Leadership - RSE).

David Hoyle is based in Proforest’s international office in Oxford, UK. David is a conservation and natural resources management specialist and leads on Proforest’s work globally on High Conservation Value (HCV) assessments, High Carbon Stock (HCS) studies, field assessments audits and other aspects of sustainable and responsible production, largely in the forestry and agro-industry sectors, with a major emphasis on the oil palm sector. David also coordinates, with Abraham Baffoe, Proforest’s TFA2020 Africa Palm Oil Initiative.

He is a social scientist by training with a bachelor’s degree in Human Geography (Reading) and a master’s in Natural Resource Management (Edinburgh).

David has worked in Africa on natural resource management issues for the past 15+ years, for World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), predominantly in Central Africa and East Africa.

Prior to joining Proforest in 2013 David was Director of Conservation at WWF Cameroon where he managed a series of protected area, wildlife law enforcement and community based conservation projects, as well as policy engagement around agro-industry, forestry, mining, REDD+ and indigenous people.

Perpetua “Pep” George has a career spanning work in forest conservation, sustainable production consulting, the FMCG industry, and oil palm plantations. Previously working for Unilever, Proforest, and WWF - she is currently the Assistant General Manager for Group Sustainability in Wilmar International.

Her current responsibilities cover the implementation of sustainable practices in Wilmar’s plantation operations and spearheading the sustainable smallholder transformation. She is also involved in wider engagement with stakeholders within the partnerships and initiatives that Wilmar belong too such as the HCS Convergence working group, the Tropical Forest Alliance, and the Sabah Jurisdictional Approach Steering Committee. She is an active participant in various RSPO work streams, where she currently co-chairs the Smallholder Working Group, and the FFB Legality and Traceability Task Force. She is also the chair for the RSPO Smallholder Support Fund Panel.

Pep holds an MSc in botany and anthropology, and her research expertise is in the natural resource use of local communities – focussing on how land and different forest types are valued amongst the indigenous communities of Sabah.

Dr. Petra Meekers has a background in biochemistry, with international experience in quality management consultancy including environmental and social impact assessments. Based in Asia since 1998, she has been involved in the implementation of environmental systems and social frameworks for a diverse range of companies. She has experience in the food, energy and agricultural sectors.

Petra is the Director of CSR and Sustainable Development with the Musim Mas Group – a global palm oil corporation with operations spanning the entire palm oil supply chain.

Her role includes developing group sustainability policy and strategy, working with the Group’s businesses and their key customers to identify opportunities for enhancing sustainability proposition in the world commodity sectors, providing leadership related to the societal impact of the Group’s activities, and advising the Board on sustainability and Corporate Responsibility matters. Petra reports to the Executive Chairman, Mr Bachtiar Karim.

Prior to joining Musim Mas, Petra worked for New Britain Plantation Services in Singapore and Papua New Guinea as the Group Sustainability Manager, and Senior Associate in Global Sustainability Associates. As the Group Sustainability Manager, she was in charge of all operations involving sustainability matters and helped to manage the CSR strategy for the business.

Mr. Triyanto Fitriyardi is Operations Officer in the Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services (MAS) Department of the International Finance Corporation. Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, he leads IFC projects focused on improving the economic and sustainability performance of palm oil smallholders in Indonesia.

He joined IFC in 2012 after beginning his career as the Investor Relations Supervisor of PT. Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk before moving to First Resources Limited Singapore as Investor Relations Manager in 2007.

His professional interests include linking the production of commodities such as palm oil and cocoa grown by smallholders to growing global markets for sustainable, certified and traceable agricultural products. Mr. Fitriyardi holds a Master of International Business and Master of Business Administration from the University of Wollongong, Australia.

Narno was born 44 years ago in Wonogiri, Central Java, Indonesia. He moved to Riau as part of the government transmigration program, and successfully graduated from high school there. He has been served as chairman of the palm oil smallholder cooperative since 2001, since its inception in 2012 he was appointed as group manager of The AMANAH Palm Oil Independent Smallholders Association.

Amanah Association is the first Indonesian independent smallholders to receive RSPO certification, and the second at the global level. Through WWF-Indonesia facilitation process for the certification, Amanah gain continuous support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Provincial and District Government of Riau, RSPO, Asian Agri, and Carrefour Foundation International. After the success, the next step for them is to secure market support for their products.

He’s worked in the UK, Switzerland and Singapore operations.

Most recently he’s been involved with P&G Chemicals, the oleochemicals operation within P&G, since 2006 and has developed expertise across the industry particularly in the downstream operation and is now also focussed on leading the upstream sustainability program on behalf of the company. As the Manager of Verite Southeast Asia’s (VSEA) Research and Stakeholder Engagement Programs, Daryll Delgado designs, implements, and manages multi-country programs geared towards understanding and improving working conditions in the agriculture, electronics, apparel, footwear, and food manufacturing sectors in Southeast Asia, as well as, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. She directs the Southeast Asia research team, and is principal investigator for Verité's publicly funded research on forced labor and trafficking in persons.

Daryll also represents VSEA in international, multi stakeholder initiatives and forums. She sits in the Advisory Board of the Dispute Settlement Facility, and leads the Labor Task Force of the Human Rights Working Group of the RSPO. She was also a member of the panel that reviewed and revised the RSPO P&C.

Daryll is a key contributor to the development of Verité's public toolkits and primers on various labor issues. She is an accredited lead auditor by IRCA, RAISE, and the EICC, and conducts social responsibility audits and assessments globally, trains and manages audit teams throughout Southeast Asia.

She is one of the Directors of the FAIR Hiring Initiative, Inc. Apart from work with Verité and FAIR Hiring, she is a journalist, a published book author, and a university lecturer.

Herwin Nasution was born on 1967, since students have been actively engaged in the defense of human rights and labor rights. After graduate from university, Herwin work as an activist in the labor issues and already working with this issue about 30 years and also become a lawyer. In the 1980s, Herwin also actively encouraged the birth of the democratic movements in Indonesia.

In 1994, Herwin served as Executive Director of Yayasan Kelompok Pelita Sejahtera (KPS) that actively organize, educate and establish unions in the industry sector in North Sumatra. In 2000-2006, Herwin served as Executive Director of Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Indonesian: Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia or WALHI) North Sumatra, that provides assistance and advocacy for the environment issue and facilitate 43 NGOs members of WALHI-North Sumatra. In 2004, during the tsunami disaster in Aceh, Herwin lead groups of volunteers to undertake a program of Disaster Risk Reduction and Rehabilitation for 6 years.

Since 2001 until today, Herwin establish Serikat Buruh Perkebunan Indonesia (SERBUNDO) which has members of 5,000 workers plantation in North Sumatra and Kalimantan. Then in 2013, SERBUNDO managed to organize 7,000 workers to encourage RSPO to establish Task Force on labour in the RSPO.

In 2014, together with a coalition 26 NGOs and unions, Herwin successfully produced Free and Fair Labor in Palm Oil Production: Principles and Implementation Guidance. In 2015, successfully encourage RSPO to adopt that document into the RSPO Principles and Criteria. Herwin currently active as Chairman of SERBUNDO and continue to advocate the improvement of working and living conditions for palm oil plantations labour in Indonesia.

Denys Collin Munang started his career in the Omya AG Group in 1995. In his 14 years tenure in the Omya AG group of companies, he held various senior positions including Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Omya Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Sales Director for West Asia region in Omya AG and Chief Executive Officer at Omya’s West Asia operations based in Mumbai. He also served as Director for Strategic Projects, heading the mergers and acquisitions as well as business planning for Omya AG’s Asia Pacific region.

He joined Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad as in 2010 before being promoted to VP Head of Strategy for FGV Global Plantations and subsequently, Group CEO of Pontian United Plantations Bhd in 2014. He was designated as Head of Plantations East Malaysia in 2015. Subsequently on 1st May 2016, he was appointed as Head of Operations Strategy for FGVH (Group Strategy) and recently on 1st September 2016, as Chief International Business Officer. As Chief International Business Officer, his responsibility includes, International Business, Operations Review and Sustainability.

Jan Pierre Jarrin Peters is a professional with 20 years of experience in the field of sustainability, he has participated as a consultant on various projects within the agriculture, oil, mining and infrastructure in countries like Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, including projects developed by the IDB and other multilaterals.

Jan Pierre is  the Sustainability Director of Oleana and has spent the past three years developing the RSPO standard in Ecuador, leading the process of National Interpretation of the RSPO for Ecuador, which has just been introduced in November RSPO 2016, he is part of the Latin-American Consultative Group for RSPO and now represents Latin America in the Small Holder Working Group of RSPO.

Jan Pierre next goal is to promote the Jurisdictional Certification of the Amazon region of Ecuador, to make Palm Oil a fully sustainable product, making Ecuador the flagship of RSPO.

Agus Purnomo joined GAR in October 2014. His role is to plan sustainability strategy, communicate and implement sustainable palm oil commitments throughout the entire value chain, in collaboration with key stakeholders. He had held many positions for the government, multilateral institutions and international and national NGOs, including Special Assistant to the President of Indonesia for Climate Change (2010-2014), Special Assistant to the Minister of Environment (2004-2009), the World Bank (2002-2004), Executive Director of WWF Indonesia, and half a dozen other national organizations on sustainable development issues.

Agus graduated with a Master’s Degree in Environmental Conservation Policy from Tufts University in the US in 1994 and a Master’s in Business Administration from Prasetya Mulya Management Institute in Indonesia in 1985.

Paul Wolvekamp (1961) obtained his bachelor's degree in law from Leiden University, graduated in political sciences and obtained his diploma in environmental sciences. He joined Both ENDS in 1989 and is its Deputy Director.

He worked on various assignments for the Dutch government, the European Commission and other agencies, in a wide range of areas, such as the development of an Indo-Dutch Environmental NGO Fund, evaluating the European Commission's contribution to dry land management, 'The Netherlands: Sustainable Distribution Country', the 'Africa Regreening Initiative' and partnerships with companies in organic tea, spices and palm oil.

Paul is member of the Board of Governors of the RSPO, vice-chairman of the Asia based NTFP Exchange Programme and co-chair of the RSPO Dispute Settlement Facility Advisory Board. He served on the Supervisory Council of the Netherlands Committee for IUCN, the national Advisory Commission on Sustainable Biomass, the University of Wageningen Forestry course and the advisory panel of CIFOR’s forest certification programme.

He is editor and co-author of numerous publications, amongst which ‘Governance, agricultural development, nature conservation and land and water distribution in Africa’ (2015), ‘Forests for the Future (1999), and 'Purposes and uses of a commonly structured Dispute Settlement Facility' (2010).

Marcus Colchester received his doctorate in social anthropology at University of Oxford and has carried out extensive field research in applied anthropology in Amazonia, South and South-East Asia. His human rights advocacy related to development and conservation has earned him a Pew Conservation Fellowship and the Royal Anthropological Institute’s Lucy Mair Medal for Applied Anthropology. He is a founder member of the World Rainforest Movement and Founder-Director of the Forest Peoples Programme, where he is now Senior Policy Advisor, and has carried out several consultancies for international organisations.

He is a member of the High Conservation Values Resource Network Management Committee, a Senior Advisor of The Forest Dialogue and member of several RSPO working groups and advisory bodies. He has published extensively in academic and NGO journals and is the author and editor of numerous books including ‘The Struggle for Land and the Fate of the Forests’ (1993) with Larry Lohmann, Salvaging Nature: Indigenous Peoples, Protected Areas and Biodiversity Conservation (1994, 2nd edn. 2004). He has been actively involved in developing standards and safeguards for international institutions including for the World Bank, World Commission on Dams, Extractive Industries Review, FAO, FSC, RSB and RSPO, notably with respect to the right to free, prior and informed consent.

Since 2004, much of his work has focused on the impacts of palm oil on indigenous peoples and other local communities and he has co-authored and edited numerous articles and books on the subject including Promised Land: Palm Oil and Land Acquisition in Indonesia – Implications for Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples and Ghosts on our own land: oil palm smallholders in Indonesia and the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (both in 2006), Land is Life: Land Rights and Palm Oil Development in Sarawak (2007), Oil Palm Expansion in South East Asia: trends and implications for local communities and indigenous peoples (2011) and Conflict or Consent? The oil palm sector at a crossroads (2013).

He has also published detailed reports based on field studies of the challenges off applying High Carbon Stock and High Conservation Value concepts in customary rights areas. He is married, has two children and a grand-daughter, and lives in the Cotswolds in England.

Pavithra has a background in economics, biodiversity conservation and sustainable management of agricultural commodities. She has worked in a wide range of environmental and social fields across Latin America, Africa and Asia in the areas of biodiversity and conservation, climate change management, smallholder development and sustainable agriculture production.

At Proforest, Pavithra is the Proforest focal point on palm oil, where she coordinates and leads on several projects globally, related to both sustainable production and responsible sourcing of palm oil.

Her extensive experience includes providing close support to companies to meet the requirements of a range of sustainability standards that include RSPO, FSC, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards, supporting companies with the implementation of their responsible palm oil sourcing commitments, development of tools for undertaking site assessments and actively supporting sustainability initiatives, including RSPO, for which she facilitates meetings and working groups.

As Deputy Executive Director & Operations Director of FSC International he oversaw the international accreditation, standards development and labelling programs of FSC. Beni Hernedi Regent of Musi Banyu Asin Region of South Sumatra Province was born in December 5, 1976 in Palembang South Sumatra has been the Regent of Musi Banyuasin since 24 December 2015. Previously he served as vice regent in Musi Banyuasin for period 2012-2017.

As a leader, he has known to the wider community as leaders who has success in various areas of life. Awarded as Inspirative Regional Head, Government Award by SINDO magazine, MNC Group in 2016. It is assessed as being successfully led Musi Banyu Asin on regional autonomy and his dedication to the education.

In 2001-2003, he was the Director of Environmental Assessment and Eco Tourism (Green Community) in South Sumatra. His involvement in palm oil development started since 2005. He is becoming more active and consistent on his role in support palm oil sustainable supply shed and palm oil small holder development together with various stakeholders including donors. NGOs and Private Sectors.

Mike has a background in applied tropical forest ecology and conservation biology, and has carried out extensive fieldwork in forest and oil palm environments in Latin America and Malaysian Borneo. Mike has also worked on REDD+ and community-based monitoring of ecosystem services.

Mike has a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Oxford and a PhD in Tropical Forest Ecology from the University of York.

At Proforest, Mike’s work focuses on production level High Conservation Value, High Carbon Stock and GIS work. This includes conducting HCV/HCS assessments along with developing and supporting new, higher-level tools and approaches on HCV and HCS.

Juan Carlos Espinosa is the Environmental Leader at FEDEPALMA, Colombia’s Federation of Oil Palm Growers. In his current position, he leads programs to improve environmental practices and promote RSPO certification throughout Colombia’s oil palm sector. Previously, we worked for WWF Colombia, where he coordinated WWF’s strategy with infrastructure and agribusiness developments, including the oil palm sector.

Mr. Espinosa has a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and a Masters in Environmental Management. He has been involved with the RSPO for the last 9 years, participating in Colombia’s 2010 and 2016 National Interpretations, in all six Latin American RSPO Conferences, in three RTs, and most recently as a member of the RSPO Biodiversity and HCV Working Group, representing Latin America.

She was also a Chairwoman for Permanent Committee on International Cooperation for Environment of the Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia) from 2010 to 2015.

She has worked for several sub regional corporations since 2003 handling the border area development and has been appointed as one of Indonesia Country Director for the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-the Philippine East Asian Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) since 2011.

Elena has been working with sustainable supply chains of a range of commodities and impacts of projects with small scale farmers in different countries; the Brazilian NGO REDE, the Agriculture Economics Institute (LEI) of The Netherlands (in Kenya), Wageningen University (in Ethiopia and Uganda) and the voluntary standard UTZ (NL) that provides the traceability service to the RSPO standard.
She has experience with:

  • Assurance models, traceability, training design for Certification Bodies and auditing practices
  • Development of guidance material to support producers in the implementation of the standard in different countries
  • Research on value chain analysis.  
Elena is currently writing her PhD dissertation at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. Her research compares palm oil supply chains in Thailand and Indonesia, relationships between actors in the upstream of the chain and to what extent local dynamics affect the implementation of an international voluntary standard such as the RSPO.

Siriluk Somnuek is an agricultural researcher with a M.Sc. and a B.Sc. in Horticulture field (Seed technology and Crop Production) from the Agriculture Department at Kasetsart University. Before starting her PhD research, she was working for the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agricultural and Co-operative to promote oil palm in the Northeast of Thailand, which is an oil palm expansion area for bio-fuel in Thailand. Her main responsibilities included:
  • Experimenting oil palm trials in the Northeast in both experimental fields and oil palm producer’s fields.
  • Organizing oil palm training programs for new oil palm producers.
  • Supporting and consulting oil palm knowledge to new oil palm producers and others stakeholders (researchers, private sectors and government sectors).
She is currently working on her PhD dissertation at Wageningen University, the Netherlands. Her research explores whether oil palm is an appropriate crop to improve producers’ livelihood in the Northeast, improving of oil palm yields by implementing good agricultural practices and the roles of agricultural policies in oil palm production in the new oil palm expansion.

Before starting her PhD research, she was working for the GIZ Thailand project to promote sustainable palm oil production for bio-energy in Thailand. Her main responsibilities included:

  • Organizing training programs for smallholder farmers to achieve the RSPO certification; and
  • Supporting the RSPO national interpretation in Thailand by arranging stakeholder consultation meetings.

Greetje studied International Development at Wageningen University (major in law and governance; minor in development economics), where she attained her Master degree in 2007. She obtained her PhD degree on processes of legitimization in private governance arrangements (Utrecht University, 2013). Currently, she is a postdoc in the research program ‘Towards Environmentally Sustainable and Equitable Palm Oil (SUSPENSE)’ funded by the Interdisciplinary Research and Education Fund (INREF) of Wageningen University(Link).

For her second postdoc she is positioned at the Partnerships Resource Center, which is part of the Rotterdam School of Management of Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her research focuses on cross-sector partnerships and sustainability standards in the field of sustainable food and agriculture using a variety of theoretical perspectives, concepts and analytical frameworks, including global value chain analysis, legitimacy, sovereignty, deliberative capacity and institutional fit.

Most of the research projects she is involved in have an action research component. She has published a range of scientific articles on the RSPO and other sustainability standards.

Her presentation will be an integration of different research projects within the SUSPENSE program that deal with the Thai palm oil industry.

Gary is Director of Research and Program Development at Daemeter. Gary holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Michigan in the USA, and has lived and worked in Indonesia much of the last 25 years. He is currently based in northern California, leading Daemeter's US based programs.

Gary leads Daemeter's programs in policy engagement, research, training and outreach with diverse stakeholder groups to support Indonesia's industry wide transformation toward sustainable palm oil. He leads programs on risk diagnosis for sustainable supply chains, Jurisdictional Approaches to sustainable palm oil, and building inclusive smallholder oriented value chains through innovative public-private collaborations.

As a biologist, Gary conducted original research on the ecology of lowland rain forests throughout western Indonesia, studying affects of soil and geology on forest productivity, species diversity and ecosystem dynamics. He's a specialist on trees in the Dipterocarpaceae, and a leading expert in the identification and management of High Conservation Value (HCV) areas. He's authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and public domain reports, and presents regularly at conferences and professional meetings around the world.

Hon. Bapak Bupati Sudarsono was born in Tumbang Manjul, Seruyan, Central Kalimantan, on November 17th 1965. He was elected as the fourth Regent of Seruyan on the mid 2013 as an independent candidate, overcoming the coalitions of 12 parties. Hon. Bapak Bupati Sudarsono serves as Chairman of Association of Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI) in Seruyan District and General Treasurer of Muslim Union in Central Kalimantan.

As the leader of a plantation-centered jurisdiction with almost third quarter of its people working on agriculture, particularly plantation sub-sector, Hon. Bapak Bupati Sudarsono is committed in supporting sustainability for palm oil. Currently Seruyan district is piloting jurisdictional approach for certification, starting in reducing the risk on sustainability upon smallholders through mapping and smallholders development program.

Perpetua “Pep” George has a career spanning work in forest conservation, sustainable production consulting, the FMCG industry, and oil palm plantations. Previously working for Unilever, Proforest, and WWF - she is currently the Assistant General Manager for Group Sustainability in Wilmar International.

Her current responsibilities cover the implementation of sustainable practices in Wilmar’s plantation operations and spearheading the sustainable smallholder transformation. She is also involved in wider engagement with stakeholders within the partnerships and initiatives that Wilmar belong too such as the HCS Convergence working group, the Tropical Forest Alliance, and the Sabah Jurisdictional Approach Steering Committee. She is an active participant in various RSPO work streams, where she currently co-chairs the Smallholder Working Group, and the FFB Legality and Traceability Task Force. She is also the chair for the RSPO Smallholder Support Fund Panel.

Pep holds an MSc in botany and anthropology, and her research expertise is in the natural resource use of local communities – focussing on how land and different forest types are valued amongst the indigenous communities of Sabah.

Dr. Guo Peiyuan continuously focuses on research and practices about sustainable development, corporate social responsibility (CSR), socially responsible investment (SRI) and corporate culture, with abundant experience on research, training and consulting services.

In 2005, Dr. Guo co-founded SynTao in Beijing, aiming to create value by providing consulting services in the field of CSR. SynTao has become a leading CSR consulting company in China, with other offices in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Washington D.C. SynTao’s clients cover over one hundred companies, governments, and social organizations home and abroad

Dr. Guo is a member of the stakeholder council of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), a founding member of China Finance Society Green Finance Committee.

Mdm. Chen Ying has been working in foreign trade for more than 20 years. Every year, Mdm. Chen Ying has rich and practical experience in grain and oils products.

She organizes international conferences for industries of soybean, Palm Oil, and other cereals and oils commodities. She also organizes national level conferences and seminars for domestic commodities.

She has assisted to organize Chinese enterprises to attend the signing ceremonies when Past President Hu Jintao and President Xi Jinping visited the United States. Mdm. She reports market information of cereals and oils industry to the related government agencies and make suggestion to the industry.

He has prior experience with Public Listed Companies, MNCs as well as other Non-Profit Organisations through various industries which included Broadcasting, Publishing and Recruiting with his field of focus the entire time being under the purview of the Communications Department.

Emily is the Founder and Director of Efeca, a UK based natural resources consultancy. She has worked for more than 20 years in the field of natural resource economics, specialising in sustainable use and trade of natural resources in particular timber and agricultural commodities including palm oil.

Emily was Director of CPET, the service providing advice, support and communication on the UK Government’s commitment to sourcing 100% sustainable palm oil by 2015, as well as the UK Timber Procurement Policy and sustainable woodfuel. Emily oversaw the production of the annual consumption report, charting progress against the UK Government’s sustainable palm oil commitment of 100% by 2015, and engaging with major stakeholders including palm oil refineries, trade associations and NGOs.

For Efeca, Emily is a Project Director to a range of projects both public (DFID, Defra, EC) and private (Kingfisher, Smurift Kappa, Unilver) sector, and is a Trustee for the Proforest Initiative and also for the Plan Vivo Foundation, a charity which helps smallholders and communities wishing to manage their land more sustainably through payment for ecosystem services.
